Newar Music

The Newars are very much colorful in conventional, classic and ethnic music as in dancings. Assorted euphony and dancing events happens in various parts of Newar societies on the function of distinct festivals. In reality, the Newars are so punctually blended with music and dances that not a single festival, banquet or ceremonial occasion elapses without a music or euphony and dancing’s.

Assorted songs, melodious instruments and dances are affiliated with several sacred, cultural and social spirit of the Newars. Various musical instruments are in use in the festival, banquets, ceremonials and also in funeral procession.

Musical Instruments

It is thought that there are approximately two hundred eccentrics of original musical tools in Nepal, and one hundred eight types of musical tools have been detected till now. A good number of Newar musical instruments are enclosed in it. These musical instruments can be assorted into 4 categories accordant to Sangeet Shastra.

1. Membranophones – Dhimay, Dhah, Paschima, NayaKhin etc.
2. Idiophones – Bhusyah, Chhusyah, TainNain etc.
3. Chordophones – Piwancha
4. Aerophones – Muhali, Nekoo, Bansuri etc.

By and large these musical instruments in the Newar society are membranophones, that are broadly speaking attached to with idiophones and aerophones.
